In%20transfected%20cells%2C%20even%20a%20small%20amount%20of%20NSP3%20was%20sufficient%20to%20dramatically%20enhance%20GACC-tailed%20mRNA%20translation%20and%2C%20surprisingly%2C%20to%20slightly%20favor%20the%20translation%20of%20both%20poly%28A%29-%20and%20nonpoly%28A%29-tailed%20mRNAs%2C%20likely%20by%20stabilizing%20the%20eIF4E-eIF4G%20interaction.%20These%20data%20suggest%20that%20NSP3%20is%20a%20translational%20surrogate%20of%20the%20PABP-poly%28A%29%20complex%3B%20therefore%2C%20it%20cannot%20by%20itself%20be%20responsible%20for%20inhibiting%20the%20translation%20of%20host%20poly%28A%29-tailed%20mRNAs%20upon%20rotavirus%20infection.%5CnIMPORTANCE%3A%20To%20control%20host%20cell%20physiology%20and%20to%20circumvent%20innate%20immunity%2C%20many%20viruses%20have%20evolved%20powerful%20mechanisms%20aimed%20at%20inhibiting%20host%20mRNA%20translation%20while%20stimulating%20translation%20of%20their%20own%20mRNAs.%20How%20rotavirus%20tackles%20this%20challenge%20is%20still%20a%20matter%20of%20debate.%20Using%20rotavirus-infected%20cells%2C%20we%20show%20that%20the%20magnitude%20of%20cellular%20poly%28A%29%20mRNA%20translation%20differs%20with%20respect%20to%20rotavirus%20strains%20but%20is%20not%20genetically%20linked%20to%20NSP3.%20Using%20cells%20expressing%20rotavirus%20NSP3%2C%20we%20show%20that%20NSP3%20alone%20not%20only%20dramatically%20enhances%20rotavirus-like%20mRNA%20translation%20but%20also%20enhances%20poly%28A%29%20mRNA%20translation%20rather%20than%20inhibiting%20it%2C%20likely%20by%20stabilizing%20the%20eIF4E-eIF4G%20complex.%20Thus%2C%20the%20inhibition%20of%20cellular%20polyadenylated%20mRNA%20translation%20during%20rotavirus%20infection%20cannot%20be%20attributed%20solely%20to%20NSP3%20and%20is%20more%20likely%20the%20result%20of%20global%20competition%20between%20viral%20and%20host%20mRNAs%20for%20the%20cellular%20translation%20machinery.%22%2C%22date%22%3A%22Sep%202015%22%2C%22language%22%3A%22eng%22%2C%22DOI%22%3A%2210.1128%5C%2FJVI.01402-15%22%2C%22ISSN%22%3A%221098-5514%22%2C%22url%22%3A%22%22%2C%22collections%22%3A%5B%22R7I3GKDL%22%5D%2C%22dateModified%22%3A%222018-03-22T11%3A41%3A47Z%22%7D%7D%5D%7D
